Incorrect Card Detail Declines
These transaction decline status' occur when the card details entered during checkout are incorrect or do not match the card issuer’s (cardholder's bank) records.
Your card number is incorrect.
The card number entered does not match a valid card.
Your card's security code is incorrect.
The CVC/CVV code entered is incorrect and/or does not match the cardholder's card.
Your card's expiration date is incorrect.
The expiry month or year entered is invalid or not a time in the future.
Your card has expired.
The card is past its expiration date.
Your card's ZIP code failed validation.
The postal/ZIP code entered does not match the records held by the card issuer.
Insufficient Funds
Your card has insufficient funds.
The card does not have enough balance or available credit to complete the transaction.
Card Status and Restrictions
These declines occur when the issuing bank prevents the transaction due to the card’s status or usage restrictions.
Your card was declined.
A generic decline with no specific reason provided by the issuer (often associated with generic_decline or do_not_honor responses).
Your card does not support this type of purchase.
The card cannot be used for this transaction type or merchant category.
The card has been declined because it is reported lost.
The cardholder has reported the card to their bank as lost.
The card has been declined because it is reported stolen.
The cardholder has reported the card to their bank as stolen.
Your card has reached the limit for number or amount of transactions.
The card’s transaction velocity limits have been exceeded.
Authentication Issues
These declines occur when customer authentication requirements are not completed successfully.
3D Secure attempt failed.
The customer did not complete or failed the 3D Secure authentication process.
Your card was declined. This transaction requires authentication.
The payment was not completed because it requires 3D Secure authentication.
Processing Issues
These declines occur due to temporary technical or network issues during payment processing.
An error occurred while processing your card.
A temporary processing error occurred while attempting the transaction.
Your card's issuing bank could not be reached.
The card issuer’s systems were unavailable or did not respond to the request.
Fraud Prevention
Some payments may be declined by fraud detection systems designed to prevent suspicious activity.
Blocked by Radar.
The transaction was blocked by Stripe Radar due to high risk or a triggered rule.
Blocked payment.
The payment was blocked due to failed fraud checks, such as mismatched CVC or postal code validation or other fraud signals.
